How do Belimo Energy Valves differ from traditional control valves?

Belimo Energy Valves combine a characterizing control valve (equal-percentage characteristic), an ultrasonic flow meter, and embedded temperature sensors into one intelligent device connected via BACnet or Modbus, providing real-time flow, temperature, and energy (BTU/kW) measurement at each coil. Unlike traditional valves that require separate flow meters, BTU meters, and balancing valves, the Energy Valve performs electronic pressure-independent flow control and automatically generates trend data for building analytics. The Power Control and Delta-T Manager features can automatically limit flow to maintain a target coil ΔT, preventing low-ΔT syndrome that plagues many chilled water plants. The Energy Valve integrates directly into BMS systems and a 6-inch Energy Valve can measure flow rates from 0 to 640 GPM with ±2% accuracy over a 100:1 turndown range.
